NEWBORN SICKLE CELL DISEASE (SCD) SCREENING PROGRAM

“Programa Primeiros Passos" (1st STEPS PROGRAM) - is the name of the Newborn Hemoglobinopathy Screening Program. This program is held through a partnership between the State Health Department and the Cities Health Departments.

HEMORIO performs Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) tests to detect hemoglobinopathies in newborns. This program includes notification to the Health State Department, babies follow-up, extended family testing, counseling and education to prevent SCD complications.

HEMORIO takes part in the Proficiency Program for Sickle Cell Disease Test held by the CDC - Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA.
