There are four main components of blood - red blood cells, plasma, platelets and white blood cells.

• Red Blood Cells – Carry oxygen and nutrients to body cells.

• Plasma – Plasma contains proteins. They act in body defense and blood clotting. It helps in the treatment of bleeding disorders.

• Platelets – Platelets act controlling bleedings.

• White Blood Cells – act against infections.

Hematology studies the diseases of the Hematopoietic System and all the disorders affecting Blood Cells. Hematology also studies coagulation disorders.
